Trackable print marketing for ecommerce campaigns

Print can bring customers to an ecommerce site if the route is easy to follow and properly measured. Direct mail, postcards and packaging inserts can each use a dedicated link, QR code or offer code so the response is visible in normal website reporting.

Choose one job for each printed piece

A parcel insert may encourage a second purchase. A postcard may reactivate customers who have not ordered recently. A catalogue may help buyers compare a considered range. Keep the message tied to that job rather than listing every benefit of the business.

Build a trackable destination

Use a dedicated landing page or campaign URL. Add UTM parameters where your analytics setup uses them, and keep a readable short address next to the QR code. This gives customers another route if their camera cannot scan the code.

Test the printed code at its final size on more than one phone. Check that it opens the intended page, loads quickly and keeps any campaign parameters.

Use offer codes carefully

A unique code can connect an order to the printed campaign. Set the expiry date, eligible products and minimum spend before artwork approval. Make the terms available on the landing page rather than squeezing them into tiny print.

Match the message to the list

Segmenting by purchase history or location can make a campaign more useful, but only use customer data in line with your own privacy and marketing obligations. Remove duplicate or incomplete addresses before sending the file for print.

Measure the full response

Track landing-page visits, code use and orders, but also note customer-service calls or direct traffic during the campaign. Record how many pieces were printed and distributed. A response rate without the delivered quantity is hard to interpret.

Compare the result with the cost of print, postage, fulfilment and the offer. If you test two versions, change one main element at a time so the result is easier to read.

Plan the production details

Postal size and weight affect cost. Packaging inserts need to fit the pack without obscuring instructions or returns information. Allow enough time for data checks, print, fulfilment and delivery before the offer starts.

For a campaign quotation, send the size, quantity, delivery plan and deadline. If the item is standard, browse the online print range.
